A Takeaway From the Georgia Runoff

The 2022 midterm elections have finally concluded with the results of the Georgia senatorial runoff contest between incumbent Democrat, Raphael Warnock and the Trump chosen,  Republican challenger Herschel Walker.

Despite Herculean efforts by the Republican controlled Georgia state government to suppress the vote of  Warnock supporters, Senator Warnock won a full 6 year term with a narrow margin of 3 points.

Warnock got 51% of the vote while Walker garnered 48% thus making the defeat of candidates endorsed and backed by Trump a complete sweep…

The fact that Trump is a loser and has a knack for picking electoral losers should be crystal clear to anyone paying half-hearted.attention to the proceedings.

There are a number of takeaways that the commentators and pundits will unpack, parse, and mull for the coming days and weeks.

However,  I doubt that few will delve into this troublesome and concerning observation:

If Georgia is viewed as a microcosm of the American electorate, nearly half of the country would choose a racist, anti-Semitic, hateful and bigoted, incompetent and oppressive autocracy over a multiracial, multicultural, competent, free and open Democracy.

This is a bit more than just something to think about…

Oh, and BTW:

“Walker’s candidacy is a fundamental assault by the Republican Party on the dignity of Black Americans.”
