Bindlesnitch Update
We appear to be having a problem on the back end of the website. This does not seem to be affecting the normal operation of the website. I do not believe this will require a reboot but I would like to remind everyone to back up their work. If we need to roll back the site, we will back up and reinstall any articles that might get lost in the process now that we have installed an additional feature that allows us to back up specific articles.
In case you haven’t seen it, Facebook recently published this tidbit about itself:
Whenever I see complaints about Facebook ON Facebook, I always post invitations to come and take a look at Bindlesnitch. No one ever does and I don’t understand why.

Because we aren’t an equivalent to Facebook

I even pasted a link last time.

Exactly why aren’t we “an equivalent” to Facebook? Or perhaps I should say that we are not trying to be equivalent to Facebook. I was trying to be another iteration of Open Salon, but I would settle for being an alternative to Facebook. Numbers. That’s the critical difference. People hang around on Facebook because they are hoping to strike fire and go viral with something they have posted. Almost anything else that Facebook offers, we can install once I get control back again. (Robert is away and can’t fix whatever is wrong and this is in his department.)
Go ahead, send me a laundry list and I will tell you what we have already installed that you haven’t found or I will see if we can install it.

I agree about bindlesnitch approximating Open Salon rather than facebook. Facebook organizes pages by the individual, bs organizes by post. In fb everyone’s posts, even the few of any length and/or depth (that’s largely you, Alan, and Rodney Roe who seems to have vanished, come to think of it – never mind, he’s just not appearing on my page, I’ve heard fb fucks with us algorithmically that way,) appear one after the other on my own page, each followed by its comments, organized chronologically and by comment. It’s conducive to short statements, links and, mostly, memes. I get links to news sources: newspapers, Pro Publica, NBC mostly. I get some leftish stuff, memes that I share mostly to poke at my trump loving niece and to educate the other nieces in case that’s still possible.
Bs, organizing by post, is conducive to more significant content or at least longer writing. There’s a lot of thinking going on in all the words and that leads to thoughtful commenting and that’s all mostly because of who’s here – people who think. A lot. With all that thinking, it’s just a different beast.
I’ve said before I hate the “newest first” organization of the comments. It’s hard to follow. Fb doesn’t do that. They still manage chronological order, it makes more sense. I also don’t like the faint, gray typeface. I know it’s all over the internet, I don’t see the appeal and it’s hard to read. I have found the comments page where all the comments are chronological with just a reference to the original post.
That’s easier to follow even though I have to click around to check back in the original post and earlier comments on a given subject.
In sum, am I just saying that I prefer the organization of the fb comment streams and the two places attract very different content by their different organization.

Thanks for some of the most helpful feedback I’ve gotten. I agree that this gray format sucks. I will ask Robert if we can change that. I also agree that the oldest first layout makes more sense than the newest first. I could also insert a news feed, but I figured that there are a lot of other places where people can get the same news feed. I will bring these matters up with Robert tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time.

We have now revised the site so that comments now appear in chronological order, oldest first. I had to get Robert to do it because I couldn’t remember how it was done. Early onset of senility, maybe?

What is this Facebook thing I keep hearing about?

Bitey, would you mind pulling the left leg? The right one is already been pulled too much and I have to get someone to pull the left leg or I am going to have to buy a whole new wardrobe and cut the left legs off.

I seem to be losing a ridiculous number of posts. Maybe if you lose them all I’ll just leave.

We haven’t removed any of your posts or anyone else’s and I, for one, do not want you to go away. I have repeatedly urged users to make sure they have copies of your articles.. I just reviewed the articles on file for you and there do seem to be some missing on the basis of my recollections, but I don’t understand how that is happening. If you have a minute, do this. Click on your name from any of your articles or comments. That will take you to your profile page where you can see all of your articles and comments. Check to see if there are articles missing., If there are, send my copies if you have them. Thanks for letting me know about this,.

It is back in order. I have been getting some glitchy-ness which gave me the wrong impression. I just need to read them better and wait for it to shoot out.
