If This Were a Scene in a Hollywood Movie…
If this were a scene in a Hollywood movie, the script or story line might well be written as follows:
The woman protesting the Colorado ‘stay at home’ order contracts COVID19 as a result of her failure to exercise the social distancing guidelines and precautions prescribed by the order.
She ends up in the intensive care unit at the hospital where the nurse she is confronting in the scene has been overworked saving lives.
Due to his efforts, she survives her near death experience, but because of exhaustion, he commits an error in providing her care, he contracts the disease and dies…
Such dramatic presentations abound. Yet people don’t seem to appreciate or comprehend the lessons and messages contained in the ‘entertainnent’.
So here’s the question:
What’s going on in this woman’s head as she screams “Go to China” at a man who is stands ready, willing, and able to risk his life in order to save hers?

How rhetorical a question is this? I assume you’re asking this because you find it impossible to relate to what in Hell she could be thinking.
Her sources of information are sources you justifiably do not trust because if you bother to think and follow information to its logical conclusions you will get that the conclusions fed to you are not remotely feasible. She is not doing any such thing. She is trusting her network – Fox News – and her President, and believes the conspiracy theories she’s being fed because no one has sat down with her, talked her through them in detail, and shown her that this could not possibly make sense.
Keep in mind that this is the mindset of Trump supporters to begin with. In order to be a Trump supporter, there are a lot of things you have to believe. You have to believe that:
– people on welfare, particularly minorities, are on welfare because they don’t want to work and want everyone else to support them.
– minorities don’t deserve any kind of special treatment because minorities aren’t fundamentally nearly as disadvantaged as they claim.
– Affirmative Action is an enormous giveaway. Black people are actually way more advantaged than White people because of this, and they don’t deserve the help or money being forcibly extracted for them from hard working White Americans.
– Black people get pulled over by the police more because they statistically deserve to be pulled over by police more. It is reasonable to assume Black males in particular are likely to be way more dangerous than White males. It is the police who deserve our support, not the lawbreakers they shoot. If they aren’t really lawbreakers, that’s the price for law and order here and we should just deal.
– illegal aliens coming across the Mexican border are doing so strictly to take advantage of the United States without giving anything back. Terrorists come across that border. People who support any benefits or protections of any kind for illegal immigrants do so strictly at the expense of America. They are taking our jobs and committing crimes.
– homosexuals and the transgender are that way by choice, their existence is sin and they think they have the right to lord it over the rest of Americans by insisting we accept their sinfulness and that we use their vocabulary and are sensitive to them. They do not deserve this in any way, shape, or form.
People who oppose the President oppose him precisely because he consistently sticks up for us. We owe him the same support. The Washington Establishment hates him and will lie about him in any way possible to take him down. When you hear or read criticism of the President, constantly keep this in mind. He is your friend, the Establishment absolutely is not. The Establishment sponsors Fake News to take him down.
That’s where this woman is before COVID even starts. That’s where millions of Americans are before this even starts. More than tens of millions. Possibly a hundred million.
Now, in order to get there, the problem is that you have to suspend critical thinking, you have to suspend curiosity, and you have to suspend any impulse to investigate anything to find if that which you find uncomfortable is actually true. There are people in authority telling you what you want to hear and you are not inclined to doubt them because you have specific reasons to trust them.
I know that the minority stuff is bullshit not just because of my egalitarian ideology but because I’ve looked, because I’ve asked myself Why Is This and gone to find out. Last year there was an incident on the Mall in Washington where a small group of Black protestors was shouting in exchange with a group of Catholic Middle School kids from Kentucky wearing MAGA hats, and a Native American elder sort of confronted the kids who were in the face of that confrontation not completely respectful to him. When I looked into the event I found things were not as I thought at all: The Black protesters screaming at the kids were from the Black Hebrews – picture a sort of equivalent of Westbrook Baptist Church where the congregants believe they’re the original Israelites and everyone else are usurpers. They initiated conflict, the elder walked in on the scene, looked, made an assumption, and turned toward the White kids assuming they were the instigators. I had to take my initial assessment and flip it on its head and I did so on a mostly conservative blog site where I was writing at the time (at the invitation of Steel Breeze). That’s not what I wanted to find but it’s what I found. So be it. This is not the way the woman in question thinks at all, but it’s how we think. The evidence is the evidence. We can’t relate to the fact that she refuses to ask.
So now we’re at COVID. The President and Fox News are telling her it’s no big deal. Governors around the country are saying that we’re paying a huge economic cost in exchange for a negligible advantage. She has been told that non-Republicans are fundamentally anti-business. She also already thinks, accurately for the most part but with very notable exceptions, that Democrats are way more likely than Republicans to want to regulate the population to get what they want. The Nanny State. Democrats are in her eyes not nearly as respectful of freedoms as Republicans are. Again, this is remarkably selective, it really depends on what you’re looking at (think gay marriage) but she has no problem with such inconsistencies, she accepts them all the time. This is just another example of Democrats wanting to do her harm by regulating her to death, putting their own concerns before her economic health over something that’s bullshit to begin with.
That, I would predict, is what is going on in her head.

She had to deal with the ‘n’ word from some patients and some coworkers…
The litany you recite re the mindset of the ‘protester’ here is neither new or unusual to me.
What is striking is the increased willingness of such people to be overtly vocal and visible re the expression of their ignorance and stupidity….

The increased willingness is Trump. Him personally. The most important thing he is responsible for is probably that, making bigotry cool again for those inclined in that direction.
