Kids Suffer When Evil at the Top Infects All Levels of Culture
In my home state, at Kingston, Pennsylvania, schools have threatened its poorest citizens that unless their school lunch bills are paid up, their children may well be lobbed into foster care.
Draconian notes were sent to upwards of a thousand. The schools say they are simply trying to garner about $20,000 from the families. They say four families each owe $450. Parents have been told unsatisfied bills could well lead to court dependency hearings and then children-family separations on charges of failing to provide food.
The schools’ lawyer claims his letter isn’t a threat. It is, he offers, an attention-getter.
Apparently the schools had thought to give its poorest children peanut butter and jelly sandwiches until legal advice suggested that might be construed as giving in.

Here’s what really pisses me off… the school initially refused to accept freaking payment for the “lunch debts” from the owner of La Colombe Coffee Co.
They also initially refused to accept payment from SEVERAL GoFundMe fundraisers (who offered something like 10 times what was owed to pay in advance of future debts).
It even wasn’t until the end of last month that the damn School Board issued a “semi” faux-apology for the “tone” of the letter (fuck the fact that the letter reeked of blatant extortion, whether legal or not).
Here’s the kicker: The Wyoming Valley School District has a positive balance of over two million dollars in undesignated funds. That means they have a couple of MILLION dollars they haven’t allocated to anything (read: don’t know what to do with.).
So these jackasses are sitting on a couple of mil, refuse to take money offered for the debt and THEN have the unmitigated gall to offer that weak ass apology for their “tone”.
I sure as HELL hope voters remember this when School Board elections come around. These assholes ALL need to be tossed out on their fat behinds!
