Of Guns and God and The Radical Left Agenda
From the Department of You Can’t Make This Stuff Up….
At one time, I thought that racism was the only thing Trump could run on….
Then came this:
This sound bite will get Trump more votes than anything else he is likely to say during his campaign for reelection….

That could bounce. Biden is far more religious than Trump. About a dozen years ago or so, Liddy Dole was running for reelection as Senator from North Carolina. A local Greensboro politician by the name of Kay Hagan was running against her. Dole called Hagan an atheist in an ad. Hagan was very involved in her church and came back swinging. The backlash got her elected.

Hagan lost the next election to Mel Tillis, who was funded by the Koch brothers. This was after Hagan was voted most moderate member of the Senate.

@Koshersalaami;
Hope you don’t mind my edit of your comments in order to preserve conversational chronology….
Liddy Dole wasn’t the political cult figure that Trump is…
His guns and god message will resonate with the same people who respond to his racism and his racist diatribes…
In many respects it’s the same message…

kosh, are you sure it wasn’t Thom Tillis? 8-D

Edit is good.
There’s another factor here you’re not considering. When it comes to either statements, interviews, or maybe even the debates, all Biden has to do is talk about how faith helped him through personal tragedies. He lost a wife and baby daughter to a car accident in 1972 and a son to brain cancer in 2015. Lying about how a man deals with the deaths of his children will not go over well. There will be some die-hards but they will lose respect for going there. Anyone who’s on the fence at all about Trump will look on that with absolute disgust. That’s about as low as you can sink.

@Koshersalaami;
“…all Biden has to do is talk about how faith helped him through personal tragedies…”
Does ‘faith’ mean that his belief that God exists sustained him or does ‘faith” mean that ‘God’ intervened and sustained him during those tragic periods?
My guess is that, true to current form, the debate moderators won’t bring it up….

If I were to choose one of those I’d choose the first. The debate moderators won’t have to bring it up. Biden will. He’d have to be insane not to. It gives him a way to alienate Christian voters from Trump because they would view such an accusation as very serious and very slanderous. The bigots won’t care, but a lot of the Christian Right probably will.
This will also give Biden a chance to take a shot at Trump holding up the Bible in front of the church on Lafayette Square after protestors were roughed up for a photo opp.
Biden doesn’t have to take out Trump’s whole base. Knocking off a piece of evangelical support is a big deal.
