Once Again, Bernie’s Out On The Limb
Bernie Sanders has been the consistently authentic, independent progressive gadfly from the very beginning of his political life.
The multimillionaire, property owning, self described, Democratic-Socialist has been at the extreme left edge of high stakes, prime time American politics for decades of congressional office holding and runs at the presidency….
During this current run, he has enjoyed the status of frontrunner for the better part of the time since he announced his bid for the Oval Office. He has done so from his perch on the left most branch of the Democratic Party buoyed by the support of passionate and committed supporters and followers.
A primary contingent of his following is ostensibly millennials and his grass roots political revolutionary ‘movement’.
The closest competitor for the progressive lane in what was a crowded field is reform capitalist, Elizabeth Warren. Nobody else in the race came close to challenging Sanders for the title of ‘most liberal’ candidate.
The problem with Bernie and many of his base is their ‘all, or nothing at all’ approach to participation in the political process. Thus the ‘out on a limb’ characterization.
Bernie is out on a limb because that’s where he’s been living for most, if not all, of his political life….
Bernie’s promise of a tide of millennials who would be new comers to the democratic process and the Democratic Party has yet to materialize, and he’s running out of time and territory to make that happen…
Since the endorsement of Joe Biden by Rep. Clyburn of South Carolina, candidates have dropped out and jumped aboard the endorsement train in favor of Biden, which seems to have caused a super Tuesday landslide for Biden.
This is the way high stakes, prime time politics works. Endorsements beget endorsements, which sometimes beget votes…
Nobody is ‘stealing’ anything from anybody…
If Sanders, and/or his supporters, start down that road, he/they will most assuredly saw the Bernie limb off the tree…
That would harm Bernie and jeopardize the Democrats’ effort to depose Trump…
Bernie and his base must own up to the idea of party unity or risk throwing the election and being blamed for doing so…
