Poem: Delusions and Eidolons

They laid claims to their versions of reality,
while ignoring our claims to the same;
They belittled what they didn’t understand:
we belittled what they thought they knew.

They lived in their fantasy worlds
we lived in our versions of reality,
all equally at odds with each other,
all equally quite wrong about it all.

We urged each other to venerate
the figments of our own imaginations,
elevating our respective illusions
into pathetically pedantic pantheons.

We demanded that they genuflect
to the idols we chose to worship
while refusing to acknowledge
the gods they worshipped instead.

Lost in the dogma,
trapped in allusions,
infused with the delusions
that we called our eidolons.
