The Genesis of the Second Amendment
The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was born of the wilderness-frontier existence and colonial life that lay between an abusive sovereign, hostile ‘savages’, sectional suspicions, and the fear of revolt by ‘threatening’ slaves…..
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” —2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States

I have often stated that the best way to incentivize gun control and reform legislation is that Black people, in large numbers, exercise their 2nd Amendment rights to keep and carry firearms…

And it keeps up because of fears of an abusive sovereign/Federal Government, hostile invaders over the Southern border, sectional suspicions, and the fear of revolt by the descendants of slaves. The fears are remarkably similar – until now I hadn’t realized how similar; what’s changed is how ridiculously unfeasible the current versions are.
Well, that’s one thing that changed. The other that’s changed is that the cure is so much more lethal than the disease. While abusive sovereigns, hostile invaders, sectional threats, and race uprisings are basically nonexistent, reactions to those nonexistent threats result in a whole lot of murdered people. The reaction to imaginary threats has become the real threat.

“The reaction to imaginary threats has become the real threat.”
The El Paso shooter drove for 10 hours in order to respond to the threat of an “invasion” at the Southern Border…
He targeted the Walmart because he knew that “they” would be there in large numbers shopping for ‘back to school’ supplies and clothes….

What is often forgotten in this discussion is that the word “state” has a special meaning. It does not refer to the nation, which most people suppose, but rather to an individual state. The free states were separate and equal to the federal state. The other incongruity is that many 2nd Amendment critics continue to claim that the 2nd Amendment give the right to bear arms to the militia not the people, but that is a grammatically incorrect reading. It is also incongruent with the fact that the states did not provide firearms or other equipment to the militias. Under the US civil code, the members of the militia were required to arm and equip themselves. Of course, the statutes refer to single shot muzzle loading rifles and muskets, not to Ak47S
