Had Germany, Like Japan, Fought On Through Summer
Had Germany not surrendered to General Montgomery on 4 May seventy-four springs back, had the last shards of formal German resistance lasted until it had become clear that, as with Japan, resistance would have spanned that summer, had I been party to relevant discussion, rather than see perhaps well over a million more British and American youngsters die in full-on, city-by-city, town-by-town, village, by-village German and Japanese Allied operations, I believe I’d have, despite moral qualms, advised two bombs, one over Hiroshima, one over Berlin.

No question. There would have been no more reason to spare Berlin than Nagasaki, certainly.
