He shows himself continually the apotheosis for a culture wherein personal, political, expectations, and those for intellectual curiosity have tumbled to earth, bored themselves beneath the dirt, a time of prizing alternately vicious and sappy emotional appeals over reasoned, civil argument, over honest exchange and sincere attempts at communication, a time in which we’ve long since taught, in which Americans en masse demand all small children get blue ribbons for showing up.
