Trump Strikes Out On Opening Day
Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a New York grand jury for his role in covering up hush money paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office said it has contacted Trump’s attorney “to coordinate his surrender” for arraignment.
The grand jury’s indictment — and Trump’s charges — remain under seal…

I’m sure he was hoping for a rain out.

He thought he could cause the other side to forfeit due to fear of “death and destruction”.

Man oh man. Ron. Did you ever think you’d see even an indictment? One with 34 counts? (those can’t all be Stormy pay-offs).
And Alvin Bragg! A force! Did not appear that way for awhile. Yet he persisted. Bravo, DA Bragg. Enjoy your very large place in American history.
I am home sick today, fever, unable to eat, yet I feel great!
(clinking my cup of weak tea with you, sir!)

Suzanne;
I’m reasonably certain that the additional counts are required to move the matter from a misdemeanor charge to a felony charge….
We shall soon see!

The media is reporting this morning that all 34 counts are felony counts.
I am feeling 100% ambivalent about partaking in the media circus. On one hand, I’m sick of him getting all this attention, basking in it, manipulating it. CNN apparently was tracking his plane from Florida in real time yesterday. Stahp that! It’s exactly what he wants.
On the other hand, it’s been six years of frustration, anger, disgust, revulsion, and incredulity, so I feel entitled to a bit of schadenfreude. A perp walk isn’t necessary, or handcuffs, or mugshot, just a photo of him standing in front of the judge not being allowed to talk. That will be very nice.

P.S. Imagine getting this inked on your arm. For the rest of your life.

His surrender will be quite an event

Kosh;
DA Braggs will do all that he can to prevent Trump from turning his surrender into some kind of media circus or political rally….
The NY Police and Secret Service will do all that they can to keep Trump and his followers under control…
Nevertheless, you’re correct in indicating that
Trump’s surrender will be “quite an event”.

Wow! I never realized how much I don’t care about the results of opening day or any other one. When I was a child, I loved the Brooklyn Dodgers, When I was in college, I rooted strongly for the Miracle Mets. During my years in Boston, I waited for the day when they would finally redeem themselves by going the distance. Once they won their world series rings and I moved to Florida (shortly thereafter, do not suspect any cause and effect from the juxtaposition of those two facts) and no longer give a damn about baseball. I just wake up every morning hoping to see that DJT has died in his sleep from a heart attack but then we all know that only the good die young.

Alan;
Jackie Robinson’s debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, was a turning point for baseball and for America.
Robinson started as the team’s first baseman that day, he saw action right from the start against the then Boston Braves.
Ironically, the Boston MLB franchise was amongst the last teams to integrate.
The Red Sox didn’t field a black player until 1959, twelve years after Robinson played against them when they were still the Boston Braves.
Elijah Jerry “Pumpsie” Green had the distinction of being the first black
player to play for the Red Sox, the last major-league club to integrate before the MLB expansion…

It might be argued that April 15, 1947 was the historical ‘opening day’ of the modern Civil Rights Movement.

“A perp walk isn’t necessary, or handcuffs, or mugshot, just a photo of him standing in front of the judge not being allowed to talk.”
Suzanne;
Other than uttering “not guilty” 34 times, his lawyers will have told him to keep his mouth shut…
I’d be in favor of the hand cuffs, perp walk, and mugshot as elements of the notion that he’s entitled to be treated as any and every other criminal defendant would be treated…
I prefer the rather archaic concept of “Equal justice under law” to the dystopian Orwellian notion that: “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others”.
As for the Trump tattoo:
It looks like it might be a fake tattoo transfer that can be easily washed away…
If it’s not, I can’t imagine having to live with the idea of permanent self-disfigurement as a manifestation and display of absolute, complete, and abject stupidity….
04/04/2023 @ 3:52 pm
well, we didn’t get to see any of the 34 not guiltys, but there’s this gem:

also, Ron, speaking as a multiply tattooed person, that tat is the real thing!

I was thinking about booking someone on a felony over the weekend. I was hoping that Trump would get the standard felony booking. That would include, at least, a momentary transfer of custody into the state system. That would require a felony body search. That includes the defendant stripping in front of officers, and having everything from the bottom of his bare feet, to the folds of his bare bottom, to his suspiciously constructed coiffure, all pulled apart, and examined. I have watched dangerous felons melt under the dehumanizing process. I think it could do Donald Trump a bit of good.
And if we won’t take these steps merely because Trump once held a powerful position, then we need to stop doing it to everyone else who is arrested on a felony. This country needs to face its built in bullshit eventually.
(Incidentally, an officer I worked with once failed to do a felony search properly. He looked away at the part where the arrestee pulls his butt cheeks apart to visually inspect the anus. Once he was in his cell, the arrestee called in a jailer and handed over a .45 caliber handgun. The gun measured 9″ in length, 5″ in height, and was made of steel.)
