Lunar eclipse right now
I was outside talking the dog out and looked at the moon. It was an odd shape. It was a bit crescent but not right. It was full last night so I went in and said to my wife “I think we’re having a lunar eclipse.” “We are, I forgot about it.”
I couldn’t get that shot. It overexposed. A bit later, it’s now, some of it is red with a crescent around it. This shot is 5-10 minutes old, probably closer to five.

Excellent! I was so busy yesterday, and so tired last night that I forgot about this. The blood red moon can be really stunning. I’m sorry I missed it, and glad that you did not.

I take my dog out andI look at the sky a lot here. Not that ai know it well; I can only identify three constellations. I could learn more.
I realized later what was weird. This was a crescent where I could see most of the moon. A normal crescent is of half the moon. It can’t be for more; what causes us to see the crescent is seeing the moon partially from behind. If you’re seeing a crescent from a full circle, you’re seeing it from in front. And a full moon is necessary for an eclipse because it’s the only position the shadow of the Earth can hit it.

A heavy fog here at the coast reduced visibility to about 1/4 mile, about 239,000 miles less than needed.

I got lucky. There are a lot of celestial events I miss from cloud cover. I texted my sister at the time and she had clouds too, around DC
