Daytime Moon at Abiquiu
Some days I get to paint from morning until I fall off the stool (with breaks for lunch and later for cookies, of course). Yesterday was one of those days.
I started this one yesterday and finished it today.
It’s another view of a courtyard at Georgia O’Keeffe’s Abiquiu home in New Mexico.
The daytime moon has always fascinated me. I was so pleased to see it in the sky, a little past half-full, when we were there a few weeks ago.
My friend Kate told me about something she taught her grandchildren. “When you see the daytime moon, think of me”.
I don’t have any grandchildren to teach this to, but because she told me about it, now when I see the daytime moon, I think of her! And it makes me laugh.

You have to have studied drawing to know how good this piece is. I studied freehand drawing and mechanical drawing in high school but it was taught at the college level. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to draw a straight line with a T square and a triangle. Completely do not have any artistic talent which is why I envy you yours.

PS: I am deeply pleased that you are making use of Bindle. Might I suggest that you can post links to your Bindle posts on FB, etc. which means that you can do it once and then post it wherever you want it to be seen.

Thank you for the compliment on my drawing skills. I create a grid in pencil on the surface to be painted (and a corresponding grid on my sketches) in order to help me keep my lines and perspective right. It works pretty well.
The grid gets erased and the remaining drawing gets sealed to the surface before I start painting. Otherwise, the graphite gets into the oil paint and muddies it.

Thank you! That’s a very observant comment. I like Hopper a lot but wasn’t actually trying to emulate his style. Happy accident, I guess. 🙂
