A photo for Christmas Eve
This photo wasn’t taken tonight. It was actually taken Sunday night. I was on my driveway looking at my snow-covered front lawn and I noticed the surface was undulating, and also that it was reflective, so I took its picture. There are two houses with Christmas decorations’ light reflecting off the snow, so I decided to include the houses.
I liked the mood. I’m not home tonight but I imagine some of the snow melted today as the temperature home was supposed to reach the fifties, plus there was rain. It goes back down tonight.
Unfortunately, we’ve had cloud cover for a few days, so I wasn’t able to see the planets combine, even though I’ve been watching them for months. Did any of you get to see it?
For those who celebrate, have a Merry Christmas.

Great picture! In Minnesota the sky is heavily clouded whenever there’s an astronomical event. It’s a law or something.
Merry Christmas? But Happy New Year at least!

Happy new year a.bit early to you, and obviously Merry Christmas. Yeah, clouds for astronomical events is a Great Lakes thing (and Pacific Northwest). I went to college in the Great Lakes area. We didn’t see the sun much in winter.

My wife having grown up Christian we sometimes do a bit for Christmas, depending on the year. This year we exchanged presents and stockings, though we did more for Chanukah. And we’re out of town because Christmas completely uncelebrated depresses her.
When we were first married, we did trees. Jonah stopped that when he got old enough. I found it a very interesting experience to see Christmas from the inside. Not religiously, though I’ve been to some Christmas Eve services. For a variety of reasons, including weddings (some of which I played) and funerals, pastors at my in
Laws’ church often knew me. And of course knew I was Jewish.

Normally I’d be at my mother in law’s retirement community in Cincinnati for Christmas. Not this year because of COVID. They like me there because I play their piano a lot and the residents like it.

What an interesting picture! It makes the snow look like the surface of the ocean froze in mid swell.

KS, cool picture. You did an excellent shoveling job, no mountainous piles of snow edging things. We had a mungo rain/wind storm here yesterday, and the family zooms couldn’t stay connected. Today, every snow speck is gone though, so we’re back to zero.

The shoveling I did wasn’t near there.my driveway was later plowed/snow blown out by a service. This was more than I could do safely. I don’t think I can get a photo of what I did into a comment.

Nice photo. Happy not to experience such views myself any more. Soggy and grey here, and of course no chance of seeing the conjunction thingy. But nothing to shovel, and it seldom gets more than a degree or two below zero.

IPhones are wonderful things. They’re good at low light. Now I always have a camera handy.
