At 74, Something to Contemplate
“Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Beach Radio. Please accept my ‘pologies for this piece of the sky as I’ve still an extemporaneouspenchant for those long ago and far away Open Sailon/Our Salon younger days.
I and I am at the Red Arrow WWII Memorial Rt. 32 North counting the ways FASCISM was defeated once upon a time. Thought GQ had imposed a sublimable glimpse of what to leave in, what to leave out…Beulah & me will be in Flanders Field celebrating our Biden/Harris VICTORY for Armistice Day.
Yep between the crosses row on row….dem poppies blow ….

Looking good Ron. You have as my mother would say, a good face.
Just wanted to say, I see you old friend. This year’s birthday was 66 for me. I hardly leave the house these days, remote instruction last semester, sabbatical this fall. Two more more mandatory semesters after that, then I’ve decided to retire. But when out in my mask, gray hair showing, I understand I’m invisible, and it’s easy to feel unimportant, as if I don’t matter as I used to, and have only old lady things to offer. I’m turning inward and am immersed in my work, an art monk. Every morning when heading upstairs to my studio, it feels like I’m gonna illuminate some manuscripts.
You have things in the now too, things more important than telling Bitey off. Olds can have that reputation for telling people off; personally I want to work like hell not to be that old lady yelling at the kids ot get off my lawn. Maybe it’s time for you to write another book? Or come to WaPo and report the Russian commentariat trolls with me 😉

@Greenheron;
“You have things in the now too, things more important than telling Bitey off. ”
Thanks ever so much for the moral support…
My son is just a couple of years younger than Bitey I truly hope that he isn’t given to counter-productive hissy fits and vitriolic tantrums when challenged.
I wouldn’t think of telling Bitey off. He’s already done a fairly decent job of doing that to himself.
BTW
The flattery is a welcomed relief…
Thanks a bunch…
Somehow I don’t picture you and ‘old lady things’ together…Your art is that good…
If your teaching is as good as your art, no reason to doubt that it is, you are forever as young as your students and theirs to come…
Be well…
