You will notice that the sizes of the images on the left hand column of the home page have been increased.
This was made necessary by a formatting problem on the mobile version of the website. At the former size of the featured images, the headlines were wrapping around the featured image, which trashed the home page design on mobile platforms. That has now been corrected by increasing the size of the featured image.
We will be increasing the number of items in the sidebar to compensate.
If you cannot find the excerpt box, you can turn it on by going to the Screen Options tab at the top right hand corner of the screen, right under your screen name.
Open the Screen Options and make sure the Excerpts is checked off. If it is not checked off, click on the box to turn it on. You should only have to do this once. Note that all of the options in the Screen Options Box must be turned on in order for the system to operate properly.
Also note that the Excerpt box may pop up in the right hand column or underneath the text entry window, so look for it in both places.

This should sound familiar to those of you who have been with me since I began blogging at the Salons, Open and then Our…
If it doesn’t seem familiar, then you haven’t read, or paid attention, to anything I’ve written…

Did you notice the incredulous, and somewhat snarky, reaction of former Republican, Nicole Wallace?
Jonathan Wolfman

She seems to be a good person and yet one for whom EG Jr’s world-view so strongly put was wholly new and quite a shock. Good on both of them. I saw nor heard “snark” from her. I saw genuine unpreparedness, not born of animus but of a set of experiences that had left her unprepared.

I don’t believe that a black man has ever directly addressed her by name, face to face, eyeball to eyeball with such stark passion and force…She was not comfortable with being overwhelmed and taken aback on camera in real time…

hardly fair to Wallace.Glaude is a frequent guest on her show as is Al Sharpton and other black men. I’ve never seen any passion from Glaude before – normally he’s super intellectual and measured. I was taken aback when I first saw it too.

It was the first time in my experience I’d seen him thus. I was delighted. It does not mean responses other than delight mark a person as wanting, or worse.

…nor ought should she have been comfortable w it…she may well learn to be. She is bright and seems eager to take in ideas new to her in many areas.

She worked w General Powell for years. Of course he’d have addressed her by name. And while Dr Rice is not a man, she also would have addressed Ms Wallace by her first name.
Ron Powell

Neither Powell, nor Rice would have addressed her with such passion in tone and gesture…
Glaude came out of character and said it the way it needs to be said…
When a black intellectual decides to stop debating and ” tell it like it is”, white folks can become incredulous because the rhetoric is no longer tepid and languid, academic or elitist gobbledygook…
Too many white people take that approach as an affront to their sensibilities, as Wallace seems to have done in this clip…
Glaude, finally, was speaking as a black man, not as a frequent MSNBC guest and contributor…
His tone of voice, his cadence in delivery, and body language was significantly different from what Wallace was looking for and expected…
“What else?” indeed…
What else could Glaude have possibly said in that moment? He had said it all in no uncertain terms…
He nailed it and then hit it out of the park and apparently her with it…

EGJr homered. Yes.
That’s a given.
Still, those who want to fault the Wallaces in our midst (I do not love her politics…but I do know when I see a caring person, however unused to the EGJrs when expressing outrage) she may be. Condemn her, criticise her, ok w me. And when we do we do nothing really very useful and we build no bridges. Of course, one needn’t need to try to bridge-build. And then we all die sooner, as does our nation..

That ‘what else’ remark, made as though he had engaged in a mindless rant, reeked of condescension, and was dripping with white privilege…
Precisely what needs to change:
“(W)e’re trying to convince white folk to finally leave behind a history…..(and) embrace a history that might set them free from being white….”

Of course that’s what we all need. He’s on it.
Tho if the Ms Wallaces of our nation are seen part of the Enemy Cadre, bloody forget any betterment, Ron.

Glaude offered no exemptions, exceptions, or exclusions…
Neither do I…

I think you both mlisunderestimate Wallace. I saw this as it happened and I’ve now watched it twice in this post and I don’t see her as dismissive or snarky at all. As it happened I saw what came after – this clip cuts it off, I had to enlarge the picture to be sure I even caught her final words but as it happened I’d have remembered a rude response. I like & respect Glaude and I was taken by his speech. He’s usually, as I said before, quite measured.
Watch Glaude as he speaks. He knows who he’s talking to, she’s not unknown to him. And she just let him go on. I think she appreciated what he had to say. She’s far from an idiot or unaware of herself.
