Ginni and Clarence Thomas v 28 U.S. Code § 455
Disqualification of justice, judge, or magistrate judge
“(a) Any justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.”
If you really want to know where the bar is re spouses of federal judges, read the entire statute.

I read this week that the main take away from the Academy Awards ceremony last weekend should be that Ginni Thomas was an active participant in an effort to overthrow the election of 2020.
This issue is central to the survival of democracy in the United States.
Justice Thomas should do nothing less than step down and retire from the bench.
Ron, if he were to be impeached, would it open up investigations into other allegations of similar impropriety were they to be made? Would he be immune in any way?

“Ron, if he were to be impeached, would it open up investigations into other allegations of similar impropriety were they to be made?”
Most likely, yes…
“Would he be immune in any way?”
Senate Republicans would ensure that it would be impossible to get the 2/3 majority needed to remove Thomas…
Thomas isn’t immune to impeachment. However, he is quite well insulated re an adverse outcome of an impeachment proceeding…

I think impeachment is likely. Legally, I think impeachment is unavoidable. Legally from what we already know, conviction is unavoidable but we all know it won’t happen, regardless of what comes out during the hearing because with anything involving two-thirds of the Senate Republican officials are now de facto above the law.
I don’t know a way out because there’s no way any election is going to give Democrats a 2/3 majority in the Senate. This is an insane state of affairs that started with the President and now obviously includes the Supreme Court.
I’ll go over the top for a minute, just because I feel like it, not because I think it’s feasible. A civil war wouldn’t do us any good. The safest alternative if this gets any worse would be a military coup for the simple reason that the military’s top brass has way, way more respect for the United States Constitution than the Republican Party currently does.
As a child of the sixties I couldn’t have imagined my ever saying that. But I kind of have to.
