Scene from a Georgia voting line

You will notice that the sizes of the images on the left hand column of the home page have been increased.
This was made necessary by a formatting problem on the mobile version of the website. At the former size of the featured images, the headlines were wrapping around the featured image, which trashed the home page design on mobile platforms. That has now been corrected by increasing the size of the featured image.
We will be increasing the number of items in the sidebar to compensate.
If you cannot find the excerpt box, you can turn it on by going to the Screen Options tab at the top right hand corner of the screen, right under your screen name.
Open the Screen Options and make sure the Excerpts is checked off. If it is not checked off, click on the box to turn it on. You should only have to do this once. Note that all of the options in the Screen Options Box must be turned on in order for the system to operate properly.
Also note that the Excerpt box may pop up in the right hand column or underneath the text entry window, so look for it in both places.
Headlines must be 44-68 characters including spaces.
Use Headline Case
Do not begin headlines with punctuation marks, other symbols, or numerals

The provision against giving water to prospective voters waiting in line is inhumane.
But, what would you expect from people who refuse to acknowledge the fundamental humanity of black people?

The issue is that they don’t acknowledge that they refuse to acknowledge the fundamental humanity of Black people. That’s the first issue. The second is that this is primarily an ostensibly Christian population, so drawing a parallel puts such hypocrisy into more stark contrast. If I could find the right image and I were on the right platforms, this could be a meme.

I keep hearing that this law actually exists in most states and it is just aimed at preventing electioneering in voting lines, ie candidates buying votes with food and drink for those in line.
Now, as I type this it seems more like bullshit to me than it even did before I typed it but does anyone know anything about the truth of this? Are there such laws?
And what’s to prevent my brilliant idea of handing out water to people just before they get in line, as they’re going to get in line but aren’t in line yet? Or set up a bit away from the line and get people to hold others’ place in line to come to you to get water for both of them.
This just gets stupider and stupider.

Part of the problem is that Georgia just ran a squeaky clean election. The Republican led election board did a great job. There’s nothing to fix. This is the problem with voter ID laws in general: they’re all ostensibly a reaction to fraud, at a cost of millions, when there is no significant fraud. It doesn’t fix a problem. It’s not designed to fix a problem, it’s just designed to look like it fixes a problem. The “problem” it fixes is too many Democrats voting.

There are laws in other states which prohibit the parties from giving food or water to people standing on line. All alone, I dont see a problem with that. Georgia is also reducing machines in areas where the population is concentrated with Dem votes and Black votes, so I don’t think they are as innocent as they’d like people to believe.
They have officials who have made statements about suppression as their only strategy, and they can use various restrictions together for that end. Better that all the restrictions be removed in all states than to let Georgia and Texas tinker with their suppression home kits.

That’s pretty funny.
My thinking was this food and water business came about because of pizzas and water being handed out and music playing, the atmosphere on some lines became downright festive.
Which of course must never happen. One must gird one’s loins, wear your most comfortable shoes and prepare for a long hot boring wait, in some districts- many hours long. Inhumane. Period. God forbid we should enjoy this marvelous day.
Ive never waited longer than 10 minutes to vote. But ive lived in NYC, CA, CT and MA. Blue states.
It was my privilege to work the Obama elections. The wait was never more than a few minutes although there was a very long line snaked around the school at 5:30am when i arrived. We moved them through quickly once the voting started. CT holds well staffed efficient elections. I dont know what goes on in the red states. Franly I dont see how they get away with this mean spirited crap.
Bring on the water, pizza’s a stretch but after a few hours of standing i imagine its pur manna to some especially mothers and children. Music and a little dancing is always welcome in my estimation.

If Coke had any sense they’d send trucks full of free cokes to voter lines for the PR. Drink A Coke For Democracy, a Proud Georgia Company.

That is a tremendous idea. You should be in sales!
